If you're 55 or older and sell your home, you may be able to put up to $300,000 of the proceeds into super as a downsizer contribution, outside the normal contribution caps.
Key facts
- From age 55 you can contribute up to $300,000 from the sale of your home into super as a downsizer contribution; a couple can contribute up to $600,000.

- The home must have been owned by you or your spouse for at least 10 years and qualify (at least partly) for the main residence CGT exemption.

Common questions
How much can I put into super from selling my house?
Up to $300,000 each as a downsizer contribution if you're 55 or older, on top of the normal contribution caps. A couple can put in up to $600,000, but no more than the sale proceeds.
Does a downsizer contribution affect the Age Pension?
It can. The ATO notes that selling your home and contributing may affect income support payments such as the Age Pension; your home isn't counted in the assets test, but the money from selling it can be.
Can I make a downsizer contribution more than once?
No. You can only make downsizer contributions from the sale, or part sale, of one home.
