  • FTB Part B pays up to $200.34 a fortnight when the youngest child is under 5 and $139.86 when 5 to 18.
  • Part B stops if the higher earner's income is over $124,327; in a couple the lower earner can earn $7,154 before it reduces.
  • Year-end supplements: up to $970.90 per child (Part A, family income $80,000 or less) and $478.15 per family (Part B).

How it's worked out

  1. Part A starts at the maximum rate for each child and reduces by 20 cents for every dollar of family income over $69,131, but not below the base rate of $75.60 per child.
  2. Over $123,078, Part A reduces by 30 cents per dollar until it's nil.
  3. Part B is a family payment: single parents get it in full on income up to $124,327; couples need the higher earner at or under that limit, and the lower earner's income over $7,154 reduces it by 20 cents per dollar.
  4. Fortnightly amounts are turned into yearly ones at 365/14 fortnights a year, the same way the published income limits are worked out.

Services Australia pays whichever of the two methods gives more.

Does the calculator include Part B for couples?

Yes. Couples get Part B while the youngest child is under 13, if the higher earner earns $124,327 or less. The lower earner's income above $7,154 reduces it by 20 cents per dollar.

What isn't included?

Rent Assistance and Energy Supplement paid with FTB, the Maintenance Income Test for child support, shared care, the Newborn Supplement and Upfront Payment, and the rule that families on an income support payment get the maximum Part A rate.
