How it works

Common questions

How much is $1,000 a week after tax?

$862 if you claim the tax-free threshold, after $138 PAYG tax withheld, in 2026–27. That's about $52,000 a year before tax. Your employer also pays $120 super on top.

How is tax on weekly pay worked out?

Employers use the ATO's withholding formulas for weekly pays, which include the Medicare levy. This calculator uses the same formulas for 2026–27.

Should I tick the tax-free threshold?

Claim it with one employer only, usually your main job. Untick it for a second job; see the second job tax calculator.

Is the tax withheld the tax I'll pay?

Not exactly. Withholding is an estimate; your actual tax is worked out on your tax return, which can mean a refund or a bill.

Is super taken out of my pay?

No. The Super Guarantee (12%) is paid by your employer on top of your pay.
