Common questions

How much does a registered nurse earn in NSW?

$1,566.70 a week in the 1st year ($81,692 a year) rising to $2,199.60 a week ($114,693) from the 8th year, from 1 July 2026. After tax that's about $2,501 to $3,364 a fortnight.

How much does a new grad nurse take home in NSW?

A 1st-year registered nurse on $81,692 a year takes home about $2,501 a fortnight after tax in 2026–27, or $2,431 with a HECS-HELP debt, before shift penalties and allowances.

Are shift penalties included?

No. These are base rates for ordinary hours. Evening, night, weekend and public holiday shifts are paid extra under the award, so most ward nurses earn more.

When do NSW nurses get their next pay rise?

Under the 2025 award the next increase is from 1 July 2027. Moving up a year on the scale also increases your pay.

Is super included?

No. Employer super is paid on top.
